International Contemporary Teapot Exhibition

About the Show:
The teapot has been a long tradition as part of ceramic history in China and the whole world. Today, the format of teapot has been wildly adopted in the ceramic art field which is far beyond the tea culture of China. The ceramic teapots can be categorized into vessel form or sculptures, functional or none-functional. We would like to explore the new development of the teapots in world and in the new century. Also to share the new concepts of teapot within the big family of NCECA. The International Contemporary Teapot Exhibition –Phoenix, 2009.

Juror
Guangzhen "Po" Zhou is a ceramic artist, writer and director of the Chinese Ceramic Art Council. Mr. Zhou received his Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and his Master of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. He is the author of over fifty articles in both Chinese and English. He has been instrumental in the exchange of ideas between the Chinese and American ceramics communities.
Eligibility
This competition is open all artists over the age of 18. All entries must be teapots composed primarily of ceramic materials completed by the artist within the last three years. Up to three entries may be submitted by each artist. This competition is specifically aimed at small teapots. This show celebrates the origin and diversity of the teapot both functional and non-functional. All teapots entered in this competition shall not exceed a volume of 16 ounces (approximately 500 ml) and height of 8 inches (20 cm).
Entry Fee
A non-refundable fee of $30 (for up to three entries) must be received by the entry deadline. Payment should be made payable to “Chinese Ceramic Art Council USA” in the form of a check or money order.
Entry Procedure
Each entrant may submit up to three teapots. Selections for display in the show will be made from 35 mm slides or digital images. Two slides or digital images will be accepted for each work. Please submit digital images as *.jpg files, preferred dimensions are five (5) inches by eight (8) inches at 300 dpi. Both slides and digital media must be labeled with artist’s name and title of work. If slides are to be returned a SASE must be provided by the artist.
The host, Chinese Ceramic Art council USA reserves the right to use images in promotional materials and the catalogue. The gallery reserves the right to reject any work that differs from the slide or digital image. All entries, including two slides (or digital images), entry form must be received by December 10, 2008. These should be sent to:

Entry Acceptance
Letters indicating accepted entries will be mailed by February 1, 2009. Email will also be used, if an email address is provided on the entry form. Instructions for shipping and hand delivery will be included in this letter.
Poster Printing and Sales
Compiled with the teapot images from the three of International Small Teapot Show at Saddleback College Southern California, a poster of “100 International Contemporary Teapots” will be printed. The Sale of teapots during the show is encouraged. A sales commission of 40% will be assessed by the gallery. Please indicate the value (retail price) of your work and if it is for sale on the entry form.
Liability
Every precaution will be taken for the safety of your work. However, insurance protection is the responsibility of each artist. The organizer, art gallery and its employees and staff will not be responsible for loss or damage.
Shipping and Delivery
Do not send teapots until notified of acceptance. Initial judging is based upon slides and digital images only. Artists will be responsible for payment of shipping to the art gallery. Accepted entries must be received at the gallery by April 4, 2009. Shipping and hand delivery information will be provided in the acceptance letter. Entries will be returned in the shipping containers in which they arrive. Return shipping must be paid by the artist. This fee must accompany the accepted pieces. This fee will be waived in cases where the piece will be hand delivered and picked up at the gallery.
